Choosing the right medium to start your seeds in can make a big difference. Our vendors offer a variety of growing mediums designed to help your seedlings get their best footing.

[1]Germinating Mix, 9 Qts. [2]
Our Professional Germinating Mix is a finely textured blend of sphagnum peat and vermiculite that is pH adjusted, and contains trace minerals to stimulate root growth. This sets it apart from sterile potting soil, which lacks beneficial microbes.
[3]Compost Plus Germinating Mix, 20 Qts. [4]
Our Compost Plus Germinating Mix contains the same high-quality blend of sphagnum peat and vermiculite as our regular Germinating Mix, plus a healthy dose of our Intervale Compost to provide nutrients that make seedlings thrive.
[5] Self-Watering Container Mix [6]
Our field tests prove it: This lightweight mix is better than conventional potting soil for use in self-watering planters. Its coarse, airy texture provides excellent wicking action and vigorous root growth without becoming waterlogged.
[7]Transplant Mix, 30 Qts. [8]
When seedlings outgrow their original growing cells, re-pot them in our Transplant Mix, which contains sphagnum peat, perlite and vermiculite, and has a coarser texture than Germinating Mix
[9]Natural BeginningsTM Seed-Starting Mix [10]
Only from gardens alive! much faster and at a much higher germination rate than seeds started in the leading commercial mixtures.
